"With her rhythmic, lyrical stream-of-consciousness delivery, it's clear this fiery wordsmith manipulates sound as much as any free-wheeling jazz soloist or freestyling hiphop MC." "Her voice is clear, concise and breathes of a vibrancy that comes from touching at that well deep within." |
Kris Northey independently published her first cd and book, dandeelion, in 1998. Her second cd, entitled Exhibit, was produced with the financial assistance of the Canada Council for the Arts' Spoken and Electronic Words program*, and completed in 2000. Both recordings can be heard in the spoken word section of this site.
Highlights of Kris' performance career include the Hillside Festival in Guelph, Thalia's Voice in Minden, and the Ottawa Folk Fest.
Her work has been featured on both college radio and the CBC, on television, and in print.
Between the fall of 2000 and the spring of 2002, she played a key role in producing and promoting Step Up Slam, a popular open mike poetry series in Ottawa.
In 2001, Kris was honoured to be included alongside poets such as Alexis O'Hara, Catherine Kidd and Sheri-D Wilson in ribsauce, a cd/anthology produced out of Montreal by Ve'hicule Press and Wired on Words.
Currently Kris is taking a break from the performance scene to focus on studying English literature at the University of Ottawa.
